The Canadian Press published a story about Stompin’ Tom Connors today.  Apparantly on his latest tour Tom has grown more and more ticked off at Anti-Smoking by-laws in this country that prevent him from smoking on stage.  Tom said “it’s uncomfortable to be a chain smoker and not be allowed to smoke anywhere.”  He also went on to say that he smoke 108 ciggarettes a day.  Wow.  Maybe Tom should look into getting a job at the midway.  Either way SPUD FM is proud to welcome Stompin’ Tom back to PEI this Saturday when he takes over Credit Union Place!

Today on Pride in the Morning we went through a range of topics.  From the world burping champion which is documented below to my birthday tomorrow and ofcourse, the picking our latest winner of Bon Jovi tickets!  Congratulations to Christina Arthur who was excited to say the least.  She’s the second person that we’re sending to Moncton for The Magnetic Hill Music Festival’s Summer Kick Off on June 27.  Listen in next week for your chance to qualify as the ticket goodness continues.

Also, David from the Physchic Fair came by the studio today.  He was a really nice guy and pretty funny too.  However when I put him on the spot he predicted that the Detroit Redwings will win the Stanley Cup.  You can visit David and four other talented physchics this weekend at the Causewaybay Hotel.  

Finally, despite David’s perdiction the Pittsburgh Penguins evened up the Stanley Cup Finals last night with a big win.  Now that Sidney Crosby has scored his first goal of the series I predict BIG things in the future… You hear that David??  I now must do sayonce to relieve any jinx that may be lingering…

nhl playoff pick’ems

So behind the scenes this morning we had “issues” regarding the playoff pick’em pool.  After we clearly picked sides in the last round (myself choosing Pittsburgh and Corey choosing Detroit) it seemed as though Corey wanted to switch sides.  So we bickered a little to decide how we were going to pick sides.  Evidentally no agreement was made.  Which resulted in Corey refusing to come on the air, which resulted in me calling his cell phone… To no avail…  So I assume that means I get the Penguins in the finals…

Laser Ease Theraputics

Finally, today I talked about the new commercials you may hear on SPUD for the next little while.  For the last 10 years most people who’ve met me and become my friends have known just how important smoking was to me.  I loved it.  The smoke with buddies while we’re having beers, the smoke in the car on the way home after work, the 9am smoke after my show!!  But what started as love soon turned to dependance and all of a sudden I couldn’t function after 9 am without a smoke.

What made it worse was all those stories that you hear about people who just suddenly stop smoking one day.  You know something happens in their life and they quit.  My grandmother died after years of being a smoker and I just smoked more.  My daughter was born and I was stressed about affording diapers and baby food so what did I do?  I bought more ciggarettes to deal with the stress!  It didn’t make any sense, but that’s what addiction does to our brains.  It stops us from thinking logically and continually aches for our vice.  In this instance, smokes.

Funny story today about a love triangle.  This one however invlolves a 78 year old woman dating at 72 year old man.  Things got messy however when his 73 year old mistress called out the other lady.  I find it funny that two ladies in their 70’s would engage in a Jerry Springer / Maury Pauvich like altercation.  “Oh no you didn’t!  That’s my man!”
